The Peninsula Hong Kong

Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR

★★★★★4.7From $780 / nightReviewed May 2026

The grande dame of the Far East, with a fleet of green Rolls-Royces to prove it.

The Peninsula was built to receive passengers stepping off the Orient Express's eastern connections, and it still carries that whiff of golden-age travel: fourteen custom Rolls-Royce Phantoms in Peninsula green, page boys in white, the sheer ceremony of arrival.

A modern tower added harbour-facing rooms with views across to the Hong Kong Island skyline that are, at night, close to overwhelming. The technology is quietly everywhere too, from nail dryers in the bathrooms to tablets that run every drape and light, and a rooftop helipad for the impatient.

The Verdict

A lesson in how a historic hotel stays relevant without losing its soul. The tea is a tourist ritual. The harbour-view suites are the real reason to book.

Afternoon tea in the gilded lobby as a string quartet plays on the mezzanine, a colonial-era ritual Hong Kong has somehow kept alive through everything.
